Job Description

Background

Kefeta, USAID’s timely Integrated Youth Activity project is a holistic approach to empower Ethiopian youths to advance their economic, civic, and social development, actively promoting growth within their communities and contributing to the country’s peace and prosperity. 

Kefeta envisions Ethiopian youths who are game changers: empowered to advance their own economic, civic, and social development; resilient in the face of shocks; actively promoting development within their communities and contributing to the country’s peace and prosperity. Kefeta will benefit the lives of at least two million Ethiopian youths in 18 cities, building their agency and capacity for advocacy, linking them to economic opportunities, and improving their access to youth friendly services.

As youth’s access to finance is often cited as debilitating barriers for the youth, one of Kefeta’s main intervention is to provide access to finance platform by establishing a Saving and Credit Cooperative for the youth (Youth SACCO). Kefeta Youth SACCO is a youth-led, youth-managed and youth-owned financial institution that has a mandate to mobilize savings and provide access to afordable credit to the member youth as a way to assist their socioeconomic well-being with a suitbale and creative mix of youth tailored financial products. To date, Kefeta Youth SACCO is established in 13 Kefeta targeted sities and now in the process to form a National Kefeta Youth SACCO which will serve as an umbrella organization for the city level Kefeta youth SACCOs.  

Therefore, Amref Health Africa on behalf of Kefeta National Youth SACCO is looking for the best candidate to fill the below positions. 

Job Purpose

The position will be responsible in managing and administering marketing, sales and business development plans and initiatives (such as following up each SACCO office sales status, initiating implementation of the marketing plan based of the strategy, support market scan for potential youth clients, youth led businesses, youth hiring corporates, organizing youth forums, making presentations) for the Kefeta Youth SACCO to improve its membership, loan circulation, market position and achieve financial growth.

He/She will promote an environment founded on values of Customer focus, Integrity, Reliability and Innovation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of the SACCO Marketing Plan at national level with close collaboration with the city level SACCOs.
  • Spearhead all internal and external communications for the Kefeta SACCO business including brand identity, corporate image, social media liaison and Public Relations at city level.
  • Planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives and ensure marketing campaigns are executed within budget limits in collaboration with the CSOs and the Kefeta youth coalition members.
  • Develop city level new business relationships, generate and negotiate new income for the SACCO at an agreed growth oriented annual target and follow through on potential new youth led business opportunities in collaboration with the SACCO managers.
  • Brand and sell out the unique features of Kefeta SACCO. Mobilize the family leaders to save to their youth directly, use the community leaders and religious institution leaders as champions.
  • Screen potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities; recommending equity investments and quality membership of corporate and individual members.
  • Oversee recruitment of new members by setting up initiatives that will support acquisition.
  • Promote all Kefeta Youth SACCO products for member uptake. Mobilize members from industry parks and other employing organizations, training and education institutions, targeted associations, and community-level groups.
  • Train and deploy SACCO marketing and sales agents that work based on KPIs in each city. These agents could target youth business owners and make them champions.
  • Use the private sector engagement strategy to design a clear approach to enhance private sector engagement for resource mobilization, resource sharing, grant, and capacity building etc.
  • Champion Deposits and Savings mobilization to ensure the SACCO achieve its intended targets.
  • Ensuring regular, timely and effective members and stakeholders communication.
  • Provide education and training programs to the SACCO members.
  • Handle all marketing and public relations activities of the SACCO.
  • Ensure member retention through relationship management, group and company visitation as per the marketing plan and weekly schedules.
  • Keep abreast of the industry trends, carry out mini customer satisfaction survey to determine trends and areas of improvement.
  • Prepare monthly business report, status update on membership and level of loan circulation.
  • Perform any other duty as may be assigned from time to time

Job Requirements

Required Educational Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Economics, Commerce or Business Management Business related degree, bias in Marketing preferred
  • A masters degree in Marketing, Economics, Commerce or Business Management Business related degree, bias in Marketing preferred

Experience:

  • At least 7 years’ experience a degree holder and at least 4 years’ experience for MA holders in a similar environment preferably a financial institution
  • Previous experience in SACCO or MFI marketing is preferred
  • Ability to lead and work within a team
  • Market intelligence and business development skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new business opportunities and improve the profitability and competitive performance of the business
  • Excellent conflict resolution and interpersonal skills and ability to build lasting relationships with clients
  • Exceptional organization skills and a strong work ethic
  • Demonstrated ability to increase productivity and continuously improve methods, approaches, and departmental contribution
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
  • Good understanding of the internal policies, systems and procedures of a SACCO
  • Creative and innovative.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills.
  • Computer literacy skills with Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, spreadsheet and PowerPoint applications.
